Regularly, your society will publish some examples of folk wisdom which are based upon using Common Sense. We hope that they will be helpful and useful to you.

A house is not a home.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
A little of what you fancy does you good.
A man who is his own lawyer has a fool for his client.
A man with a hammer sees every problem as a nail.
A new broom sweeps clean, but an old one knows where the dirt is.
A penny saved is a penny earned.

There are some people whose advice safely can be avoided but as we should never empty the baby with the bath-water, it behoves us all to watch for the odd words of wisdom from unexpected sources.

For example, ‘Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake’ (Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815). This is rather good Common Sense but only if the enemy’s seeming mistake is not a simple disguise of their true intent.

A person is known by the company he keeps.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
A rolling stone gathers no moss.
A soft answer turneth away wrath.
A stitch in time saves nine, Thomas Fuller, 1732.
A trouble shared is a trouble halved.
A volunteer is worth twenty pressed men.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. (John Dalberg-Acton, 1887).
Accidents will happen in the best-regulated families.
Actions speak louder than words.
Adversity makes strange bedfellows.
All things come to those who wait.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
April showers bring forth May flowers.
As you sow so shall you reap

REMEMBER ... Common Sense is like a deodorant. The people who need it most don’t use it.
